The pictures inserted below are from the Splash, Dash, & Roll that was on August 1 inviting all kids from the Great Explorations summer program, Calumet, Dollar Bay, Lake Linden, Hancock, Houghton, South Range, Baraga, and L’Anse schools were invited to participate. All the schools received training sessions using the CATCH starting in June and going through the week before the triathlon.
All students that decided to strap on their swim suits, bring their bike, and have their running shoes ready to go were invited to “tri”. The entire Health Promotion team at the WUPHD pitched in to get the course ready for the big day making sure the areas were well marked and all kids had bikes and helmets. Local race officials lent their equipment, finish lines and a PA systems to make the whole experience authentic though there was not any winners of the Splash, Dash, & Roll. They were told at the finish of the triathlon that they had won in our eyes because they tried something new and they all received a T-Shirt just for crossing the finishing line.
